P R O C E S S - Stiffening the jacket

The notion of capturing a  M O M E N T  has been with me for a while, last year I developed moulded leather bras and underwear that was shaped in the form of the female body. This is what I've been trying to achieve with woven/felted suiting fabric. It worked really well but I was also using extremely toxic fabric stiffener that makes pretty much anything like cardboard once it dry.
Using this notion of  MOMENTS  again came to me when watching the "life cycle of the plastic bag" video again, watching how the groceries move round inside the transparent casing that is the bag there is all this change but never a constant. Capturing the  MOMENT  is the concept of a garment that allows movement, change and freedom of the form beneath, but also has an element of which 1 MOMENT has been captured and stays still even though the form beneath moves freely and without restriction.

D E - C O N S T R U C T I N G the plastic bag

We were asked in class to begin to document your process in the form of a video recording, this is something I had already been doing last semester. Recording your process is incredibly helpful as I was able to go back through and look at exactly what I did in each step. I've been trying to make these videos kind of fun by speeding up and putting music in over the top. There is nothing worse than watching a boring video that goes for ever and I sure as hell am not going to watch my own video again if it's going to shit me to tears.

So anyway, this is a couple of videos I slapped together to make the one. This is the first experimentation I did with the plastic bag. I haven't put any images up of what it looked like on the stand, and to be honest I probably wouldn't because I  H A T E D  it with a vegence. Don't get me wrong I'm keeping with the concept of the plastic bag but using it as an actual garment on the body after de-constructing just doesn't do it for me.

When I was surching google looking for a song about plastic bags for my little move "life cycle of the plastic bag" I wanted to have a song about plastic bags over the top of it, I found a band called the "Red plastic bag" and another called "Plastic bag" but no band that sang about plastic bags. Oh well I suppose Beck's garbage truck song has some relation to the plastic bag P L U S its pretty awesome.

I couldn't help but want to put this up. A song/rap about plastic bags, these kids are so funny but I appreciate the effort put into the editing of this video, it may look pretty flawed but I think thats what adds to this video comical but influential value.  W A  R N I N G  it does go forever.

Going S H O P P I N G

I meant to put this video up long ago, it was from the beginning of my research. I thought that it would be best to show the plastic bag in its natural habitat and of course that meant going shopping.

So off we went on our excursion to Woolworths. My intention was to observe the process of packing the plastic bag and watching the contense within move around and interact with the plastic bag itself.

The plastic bag PROTECTS and HOLDS everything with in itself it acts as an outer CASING just as a garments is used to PROTECT HOLD and INCASE.

S T U F F

Glue is getting expensive and paper sparse so I'm putting the images that get me excited about up here on my blog.
These images are the kind you can't explain, there the ones you have on your bedroom wall, you wake to them each morning and in some way they prepare you, they reassure you and remind you of exactly what you're going to do today. These images are just a collection of relevant material I've peeled of my wall

Today's going to be a good day

It's a new year and a new start and I guess I've just started.
D E C O N S T R U C T  the plastic bag.
At the moment I'm attempting to document the life cycle of the plastic bag with both photographs and videos.

This video looks at the changing surfaces of the bag.

G O L D F I S H E Y E S

I met some gold fishes when I was away and I couldn't help but think of this song

Down in the meadow in a little bitty pool
Swam three little fishies and a mama fishie too"Swim" said the mama fishie, "Swim if you can"And they swam and they swam all over the damBoop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!

And they swam and they swam all over the dam
"Stop" said the mama fishie, "or you will get lost"
The three little fishies didn't wanna be bossedThe three little fishies went off on a spreeAnd they swam and they swam right out to the seaBoop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!

And they swam and they swam right out to the sea
"Whee!" yelled the little fishies, "Here's a lot of fun
We'll swim in the sea till the day is done"They swam and they swam, and it was a larkTill all of a sudden they saw a shark!Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!
Till all of a sudden they saw a shark!

"Help!" cried the little fishies, "Gee! look at all the whales!"
And quick as they could, they turned on their tailsAnd back to the pool in the meadow they swamAnd they swam and they swam back over the damBoop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!Boop boop dit-tem dat-tem what-tem Chu!And they swam and they swam back over the dam.
