THE NU PROJECT

The Nu Project is made up of a collection of woman from around the world, photographers come into their homes and capture them in their most natural human state "nakedness". 'The Nu Project' has been focused on capturing women's personalities, quirks and natural beauty. Began in 2005 'The Nu Project' has stayed true to their original vision: 

No professional models 

Minimal makeup 

No glamour. 

"Over 100 women across North and South America have participated in the project.  Without their courage, confidence and trust, none of this would have been possible. We are so thankful for their willingness to open their homes to us" (The Nu Project).

I have to admit from some of the posed and edited photographers I have been looking at of late these images by 'The Nu Project' are really refreshing. There is something really beautiful about the images and I haven't been able to really put my finger on what it was, it was only today as I was writing this entry that I realised what it was that was so appealing, it's the fact these woman are so relatable, there is a closeness in which resonates with these woman. The fact the images are taken in their homes another level of personalism. 'The Nu Project' have done well to provide a sophisticated way of showing naturalism in the female nude.

What I loved about these images is the way the body has been bound and how this has effected the way in which you read the female body. 

Does the ropes effect the mood of the image? 

I think yes, if you choose to take the ropes into consideration in a sexual way as well as the distraction of facial expressions on the models. Though in their simplest of forms the ropes draw the eye in, it's in the placement of the ropes on the naked female form that makes these images so interesting to my research.

“This is really great because it’s got videotapes in it, and the little TV that has the video recorder. It looks so old.”

MEL 1999“She’s a French girl who I shot a million times. She didn’t care about being in porn magazines, which was great because I could sell the photos anywhere.”

SAM 

1994“This was in San Francisco. Barely Legal magazine had just started, and I had just sold my first set to them. I went to San Francisco looking for girls, and this one said she would do it. I imagine she was a stripper because everybody I knew there was in the stripper scene. She had a kid, although the kid was nowhere to be seen. I guess she was about 18 or 19 in this photo.”

I FORGOT HER NAME 

1995“This was another stripper from San Francisco. I don’t remember anything about her… Oh, wait. I do! My doctor at the time told me his marriage was breaking up. It turned out it was because he was having an affair with this girl I photographed. Total coincidence.”

JAIKO 

1993“I still see Jaiko all the time and she still looks really hot. I think she was about 19 here. I met her and shot her when she was just visiting New York from Japan, and then she moved here. She is an A-number-1 girl. She has these incredible boobs.”

What I find so appealing about the photographs of RICHARD KERN is the simplicity of composition being mainly a woman as the focal point, however Kern's photographs can be so very easily miss construed. 
Kern's collection for Vice magazine 'ARCHIVAL GIRLS' is an example of how his photography technique tells a story, the little blurbs under the images allow the viewer to develop a relationship with the image and subject as well as having an educated opinion on the piece, in turn this allows the individual to view the work in a different light. Kern instills an approachability in his work. 

PROPOSAL

I've nearly finished my proposal for the exhibition which is presented in conjunction with MSFW. 

This is a little sneak peak at my model/plan. The image is an example of the platform I wish to develop with latex applied over the top and sides to look as if the flesh of the bodies that stand upon the blocks is in fact beginning to melt off.

THE CRYING WOMAN

I drew 'The Crying Woman' in the weeks leading up to assessment. You could say that she is a fair representation of how we were all feeling...

HOLIDAY times

With assessment over and the next semester looming over my head I thought I'd take a short break from it all and visit my mum. It was so very cold in Main Ridge but with two wood fires to keep me warm I could snuggle up with my kitties whilst looking outside at the last of the autumn leaves clinging limply to their branches as winter begins its onslaught. 

This is a picture I took in the afternoon when the fog was beginning to settle. 

So pretty!
