This exhibition was part of the emerging designer series, Melbourne Spring Fashion Week MSFW.
Whilst the exhibition at 1000£ Bend was up I took some pictures of my own work as well as the others who participated in the exhibition.

TITLE OF WORK: SKIN
MATERIALS: latex & silk crepe de chine
MOVIE BY: Nadeemy Betros
MUSIC: Winston by Thrupence
This body of work explores the symbiotic relationship between the skin and the materiality that covers it. There is a truth in the naked female body that is often lost beneath a layer of cloth. One can not exist without the other a harmony must be developed and a relationship formed between the social body and the material of which conceals it.
These works are made up of latex and silk crepe de chin pleated, tucked and adhered together in a way that looks as if body and garment have become one. These tucks and pleats work with the latex to reveal and conceal the body, the placement of tucks and pleats are important to the hierarchy of the female body. It’s not just about revealing certain areas of the body but rather accentuating them by concealing them. Latex has been used extensively because of its ability to mimics the surface of the body to recreate the imperfections and changing surfaces of the skin. The movie which is projected over the space represents the living relationship between body and garment and also created a sense of movement with in the space.
These are some images of the garments whilst the movie was being projected onto them.
